TSA confiscates Wolverine-style claws at airport checkpoint
SEATTLE (Gray News) - Transportation Security Administration officers at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport recently stopped a suspicious carry-on item that looked more like something out of a Marvel movie.
According to the TSA, officers Douglas Linn and Dennis Oishi teamed up to identify and stop a dangerous item in a carry-on bag.
Officials said while reviewing X-ray images, Linn spotted the item and immediately recognized it required additional attention.
“I saw three blades and distinct claw-like features,” Linn said. “I was amazed, and even more so when it came out of the bag. I have never seen anything like this during my two years at TSA.”
Officials said the item resembled a mix between Wolverine-style claws and Freddy Krueger blades, noting that some accessories are better suited for movie screens rather than airplane cabins.
As the property search officer, Oishi conducted a bag search, confirmed the prohibited item and was said to handle the situation with the professionalism expected during checkpoint operations.
The passenger immediately remembered the items after Oishi removed them from the bag and voluntarily abandoned them at the checkpoint.
“In my seven years with TSA, this is one of the most unusual items I have encountered,” responding supervisory TSA officer Ann Rhoades said. “When Dennis asked the passenger if there was anything sharp in the bag, he said he wasn’t sure. Obviously, there was.”
