LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A homicide investigation is underway after a person was found shot inside a home after an early morning fire in west Las Vegas.
According to a release, the event occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue was dispatched to the 6200 block of Carmen Boulevard, near Jones Avenue and Vegas Drive, after reports of smoke coming from the bedroom window of a home.
When first responders arrived, they forced entry into the house and found a man, identified on Monday as Deaon Crawford, 43, of Las Vegas, with severe burns lying on the ground.
Firefighters pulled him out of the house, and he was taken to medical personnel. Officials said Crawford was pronounced dead at the scene.
Firefighters contained the blaze, which was declared “all clear” just after 4 a.m.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and found blood inside the home. Police said Crawford had been shot several times before the fire was started.
“NV Energy and Southwest Gas were notified of this incident,” the release said. “The home will require board-up services for at least one door and one garage door.”
Around noon, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials said Crawford’s death was being investigated as a homicide.
Police said no arrest was made Thursday, and that investigators would be looking to the fire as arson as well as homicide.
