Lombardo calls for special session of Nevada Legislature
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — In a release Monday from the governor’s office, Gov. Joe Lombardo called for a special session of the Nevada Legislature in Carson City.
“At some point over the next few months, I intend to call the Legislature back for a special session,” Lombardo said. “The goal will be to finish what the Legislature left unfinished — plain and simple.”
No further details were immediately available as to the purpose of the special session. The 83rd session of the Nevada Legislature began Feb. 3 and adjourned June 3.
What could be done in a special session?
A spokesperson for the governor’s office tells FOX5 Monday evening no agenda has been finalized.
Earlier this year, the spokesperson said a special session could tackle what lawmakers left “unfinished.”
Last session, after 11th hour delays in the senate, the governor’s “crime bill” did not make it.
Those delays also prevented a final vote on the ”movie studio” bill, for tax credits for Warner Bros and Sony Pictures. Thousands of workers have been lobbying for lawmakers to act and bring the bill back.
The governor’s office calls for the session but leaders of the senate and assembly must also agree to work on passing legislation.
Leaders have been negotiating for some time on an agenda.
Back in 2023, FOX5 reported that a special session costs the state $250,000 per day.
