Two people were hospitalized, including one in critical condition, after energized copper injured them at a Mesa building Tuesday. A crew was removing copper from a building near Tahoe Avenue and Avery Street, west of Mesa Gateway Airport, when the incident happened. Mesa Fire Department officials said the copper apparently was still energized. Two people were injured and taken to the hospital, with one in critical condition.
After years of surgeries, therapy and recovery, Phoenix Officer Tyler Moldovan faced the man convicted of shooting him eight times as he received two life sentences. Essa Williams received two life sentences plus 25 years for the 2021 shooting of Moldovan. Moldovan, who was shot eight times while responding to a call in 2021, described the lasting physical pain and extensive medical treatment he faces. His wife said their “life sentence” began the moment Williams raised his gun. Williams maintained he acted in self-defense, while prosecutors said he shot Moldovan while trying to escape.
