Over 200,000 sign petition demanding NFL remove Vick as Pro Bowl captain

(CNN) -- Michael Vick is going back to the NFL Pro Bowl, this time as one of four NFL Legends Pro Bowl Captains.

But if some fans have their way, the ex-quarterback will lose his chance to mentor players on the sidelines.

Joanna Lind started a petition on change.org to have Vick removed from the game, and it has more than 400,000 signatures.

"Just saw this on Facebook and was absolutely disgusted," Lind wrote on the petition page. "When is the NFL going to take any responsibility for the behavior of it's current and former players? To honor a man who had zero regard for animals is unacceptable and I would like your help to make sure he is not honored at the 2020 NFL Pro Bowl."

Vick served 18 months in federal prison for his role in a dog-fighting operation. He was suspended by the NFL and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Vick returned to the NFL and played for the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and Pittsburgh Steelers before retiring in 2017. He then signed with Fox Sports as an analyst.

The NFL, Fox Sports and representatives for Vick did not immediately respond to a request for comment from CNN.

The 2020 NFL Pro Bowl will take place on January 26 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. The other captains selected are Terrell Davis, Darrell Green and Bruce Smith. They are expected to serve as mentors to players during the game and participate in events leading up to it.

It's appalling to me to see so many people who think that a few months in jail are adequate payment for such heinous animal abuse. Michael Vick feels ZERO remorse for torturing and killing all those animals! The ONLY remorse he feels is for getting caught. THIS is the role model you want for your children?! Because the man can handle a little leather ball you think it's OK to venerate a psychopath?! Some of you say "If it were anyone else"...Have you people not noticed that animal abuse is no longer tolerated? Do you not realize the correlation between animal abuse and human abuse?! Pull your heads outta the sand people! Psychos and thugs do NOT belong on a pedestal. Especially when they contribute ZERO to the human race in any way.

When a criminal does his time, and pays for his crime, gets out and seems to be living the right way said criminal should be left alone. He paid for his crime. If it were anyone else everyone would be crying let him have his redemption. Gmafb. Here paid for his crime, let him live.

He NEVER paid for his animal abuse. He went to jail for racketeering and tax evasion. The man is a monster through and through. THIS is the role model you think our nations children need to look up to?

He served ZERO time for animal abuse. He was convicted of racketeering and tax evasion. He has ZERO remorse for his heinous crimes against the animals in his care as well as the one's they stole and tortured to death in their training rings.
