LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- The head of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association sent a letter to the Vegas Golden Knights in response to the team's response to the shooting of Jacob Blake.

On Thursday, several major sports took the day off to draw support for the Black Lives Matter movement in wake of Blake's shooting earlier in the week. Blake was shot by a police office seven times in the back and is now paralyzed, according to his family.

In the letter, Steve Grammas wrote he was disappointed in the team and said they were "extremely quick to turn their back on law enforcement."

The Golden Knights responded on Saturday:

"We are aware of the recent open letter to our organization from the Las Vegas Police Protective Association. We had a productive conversation with the Association on Saturday and look forward to continued dialogue."

The union represents active and retired Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department police and corrections officers, and the Las Vegas Deputy City and Municipal Court Marshals.

Professional sports and politics never mix. We all saw what happened to that moron Kapernick. I guess the other athletes are just as naïve or simply want to get involved in something they have no business being involved in. Overpaid fools that think they part water. Not in the real world. You will come to regret this one day

Professional sports and politics have a long history of mixing and enacting social change. Though many of the athletes in this list were punished severely, they all have stood by their decision to protest. Both organizations and individuals in sports have pushed for political change including: Pete O'Connor at the 1906 Olympic games, Jackie Robinson and breaking the color barrier in Baseball in 1947, or in 1961 when the Boston Celtics refused to play because the black members would not be served in restaurants, or in 1965 when the AFL refused to play their all star game due to segregation in New Orleans, or in 1967 when pro athletes banded together in a conference in support of Muhammad Ali, or Tommie Smith and John Carlos at the 1968 Olympic games, or the 1972 mlb players strike for the rights of labor, or NBA player Bill Walton protesting the Vietnam War, or in 1973 when a boycott of South Africa began in response to the atrocities of apartheid, or the boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, or in 1996 when Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf refused to stand for the national anthem, or in 2003 when Toni Smith turned her back to the flag during the national anthem, or in 2004 when Carlos Delgado refused to stand during God Bless America in protest of the Iraq war, or in 2012 when Tim Thomas refused to visit Obama because he believed the executive branch of the government had grown out of control.

I would have never expected this behavior from a NHL team, especially the VGKs. It's disgusting how quickly you guys rushed to judgement before the facts were in and sold out your fans and law enforcement to jump on the bandwagon for the "Woke Mob".

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I think it should be kept off the ice. We don't pay for your political/social justice opinions, we pay to see you play hockey. You should have left it alone and been above the fray. Now you will suffer the consequences.

Just like NASCAR, the NBA, MLB and NFL have all become social justice warriors I will NEVER waste another minute of my time watching any professional sports nor will I spend my hard earned money on tickets and merchandise. Professional sports and the VGKs are now dead to me.

Remember these words, "Get woke, go broke". Bye, bye VGKs, it was fun while it lasted.

Golden Knights have just ended their run with fans as the fans are in mass exodus! My advice for the team is to not get involved in politics ever! Play the game and keep neutral! Otherwise it the end of NHL fans. They don't pay good money to listen to your advice. The best advice is keep it on the ice!
