(Meredith) - A 10-year-old boy in Alabama is going viral after he returned $900 to a woman who lost the money inside a Target store.
Parisa Dudley said her 10-year-old son, Foster, learned a “great lesson in integrity and empathy” on Jan. 3.
While visiting the Target in Hoover, the young boy found a blank envelope that contained $900 in cash and a receipt from a local credit union with a woman’s name on it.
“His first response was, ‘Mom, can we keep it?’” Dudley wrote on Facebook. “I looked at him and asked him to put himself in her shoes."
She also asked her son how he would feel if he lost that much money.
“He quickly answered, ‘Mom, we have to find her and give it back,’” Dudley wrote.
She and her son immediately contacted the store manager, Jeremy Walker. Within two days, they tracked the woman down, with the help of police.
Dudley shared photos on Facebook of her son returning the money on Sunday to a very grateful Verdina Ball.
“It was awesome to give her the money back,” Foster told WIAT-TV. “I felt very proud of myself and happy that I gave it back and I felt very powerful after I did it.”
After giving Ball a big hug, Foster received a $100 Target gift card as a reward for his good deed.
“It was an awesome experience,” Dudley wrote.
