(WKBW/CNN/Meredith) – A New York man who pleaded guilty to rape and sex abuse of four teenage girls will face no jail time.

Christopher Belter, 20, raped and sexually assaulted four teenage girls at his family’s home in Lewinston between 2017 and 2018.

Some of Belter’s rape victims were in the courtroom for his sentencing when Niagara County Court Judge Matthew Murphy handed down his sentence of eight years’ probation.

Belter was sentenced as an adult after Murphy denied him youthful offender status for violating his probation by bypassing monitoring software on his computer to view pornography.

However, Murphy decided that prison time for Belter would be inappropriate.

“I agonized… I’m not ashamed to say that I actually prayed over what is the appropriate sentence in this case. Because there was great pain. There was great harm. There were multiple crimes committed in the case,” Murphy said.

Belter addressed the courtroom before his sentencing, saying he has “come to feel deep shame and regret for my actions. None of you deserved to be in this situation.”

Attorney Steve Cohen, who represents one of the victims, said he is outraged with the sentence and believes Belter is facing “zero consequences” for his actions.

“[Belter] is privileged. He comes from money. He is white. He’s being sentenced as an adult, appropriately. And for an adult to get away with these crimes without doing jail time is unjust,” Cohen said.

When asked about his client, Cohen said “I believe she’s in the bathroom throwing up right now. Excuse me.”

In addition to the eight years of probation, Belter must register as a sex offender. He will be back in court Dec. 2 for a Sex Offender Registration Act hearing where it will be decided whether he is a level one, two or three sex offender.

This judge has just revictimized these young ladies, and over money while he is in his last year to retirement. "Mr. Belter’s father, who is also named Christopher and is divorced from Mr. Belter’s mother, is a senior partner at Goldberg Segalla, a large law firm where, according to The American Lawyer magazine, some partners earn up to $1 million a year. Kids getting drunk and having sex is hardly rape.

The guy's a sexual predator. Does Clinton and Cosby ring a bell.

Except for when it is non-consensual, then it's the definition of rape.

Terrible miscarriage of justice. The judge should be removed from the bench.

You're 100% right, these are serious crimes that have devastated lives. How the judge could come to this decision is baffling.

......totally agree!
