LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is taking steps to recruit more drivers and security officers to fill a worker shortage.

Kelios will hold a job fair on Friday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the RTC service yard (5165 W. Sunset Rd.). Kelios will conduct on-site interviews and hiring qualified applicants. A minimum 3-year driving record is required. No previous bus or commercial driving experience is necessary. Kelios said successful applicants will receive paid training and a $2,500 signing bonus. Applications also are available to fill out in advance online

RTC is partnering with Keolis, MV Transportation and Marksman Security to do it. RTC incentives include sign-on bonuses up to $2,000, paid training and benefit programs.

RTC says there are 1,700 transit and paratransit drivers and security officers in the workforce, and more than 180 vacant positions that contractors are looking to fill immediately.

In a message sent to riders on Sept. 2, the RTC said the workforce shortage might cause travel delays, and that frustrations should not be directed at drivers, who are having to cover extra shifts.

"We apologize in advance for the travel delays that you may experience. Please do not blame the delay in service on your bus driver, who is working hard to cover extra shifts to try to provide you with reliable service. This is a very fluid situation, and service levels may vary from day to day based on workforce availability," the RTC message said.

The RTC said riders can download the rideRTC app to get real-time alerts about any route delays or changes.

You can apply for positions with any of RTC's contractors at keolisnorthamerica.commvtransit.com or marksmansecurity.com.
