UPDATE (JULY 23): The NSHE Board of Regents have appointed Dr. Keith Whitfield as the new UNLV President.
With Regent John Moran absent, the board voted unanimously during a special meeting on Thursday to appoint Whitfield, an administrator from Wayne State University. Whitfield will replace the interim President Marta Meana.
“Covid is not something that’s stopping us," Whitfield said. "It’s an opportunity for those who have the wisdom to see and capitalize on.”
Whitfield will begin on August 24 under a four-year contract.
ORIGINAL STORY (JULY 22): LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- The Nevada System of Higher Education search committee for the new UNLV President announced on Wednesday that it has recommended Dr. Keith Whitfield to be the next president.
The NSHE Board of Regents will vote on the recommendation on Thursday afternoon.

Whitfield was provost at Wayne State University in Detroit since 2016 and held several administrative positions at Duke University since 2002.
