A woman was injured and a father and daughter escaped their burning home near Oakey and Decatur boulevards Tuesday night, according to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

Crews were called to 5216 Doe Avenue to respond to a heavy fire. LVFR said a man and his adult daughter live at the house and had just returned home before hearing a loud noise, sounding like an explosion coming from their garage.

A car in the garage caught fire, and it spread to the home. The two had escaped safely, but a friend came to the home and thought someone was still inside. She went into the house and suffered second degree burns, LVFR said. She was taken to the hospital to treat her non-life threatening injuries.

LVFR said firefighters found a large amount of gas stored in the garage, which made for an intense fire. Public information officer Tim Szymanski added that firefighters had no way of knowing what was inside the garage under such adverse conditions.

The house sustained about $200,000 in damages, according to a release.

The Red Cross assisted the displaced family.
