UPDATE (AUG. 3): Henderson police have identified the officers involved in a Saturday shooting as Sergeant Charles Hedrick and Officer Lane Stringham.

Hedrick has been employed by the department since 2008. Stringham has been worked for the deparmtnet since 2017.

ORIGINAL STORY (AUG 1):

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Henderson police shot and injured a man holding a knife on Saturday morning.

About 4:40 a.m. on August 1, police responded to the 400 block of Box Elder Court, near Van Wagenen Street and Pacific Avenue, to a call of an "unknown problem," according to a media release.

The caller to 9-1-1 said a man fell to the ground with a butcher knife in his hand. When officers arrived, the man was found outside of a home with the knife to his throat.

HPD said officers attempted a conversation with the man, and when he approached officers with the knife, they used Tasers. According to police, the Tasers didn't work and the man "reacquired the knife," resulting in an officer shooting the man.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was expected to survive, police said. The man will be charged with one county of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.

No officers were injured.

This was the Henderson department's fourth police shooting for 2020. Anyone with information is asked to call the Henderson Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
