Final back-to-school clinic offering free, low cost vaccines before school starts

FirstMed Health and Wellness Center and SilverSummit Healthplan were scheduled to host their final, back-to-school immunization clinic on Saturday.

The clinic was held at FirstMed Health, located at 3940 North Martin Luther King Boulevard, Suite 105B in North Las Vegas, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The goal of the clinic was to help families meet the immunization requirements for the upcoming school year, according to a press release.

Nevada laws require all school-age children to have their immunization records up to date for the new school year, the press release said. Parents were advised to bring their child’s vaccination records. For parents who were unable to bring a vaccination record with them, staff from Nevada WebIZ would be available to find a child’s record and provide a physical copy, the press release said.

Vaccines were provided at no cost and on a first-come, first serve basis for uninsured, underinsured and Medicaid eligible children and teens, according to the press release. Free sport physicals were available for $40.

According to the press release, a child’s vaccination record must be up-to-date with the following: Four DPT shots (diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus) Three polio shots Two MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) shotsStudents who were new to Nevada schools required the following vaccines: Two Hepatitis A shots Three Hepatitis B shots Two chicken pox shots One “Tdap” shotCopyright 2018 KVVU (KVVU Broadcasting Corporation).
