Metro police said they are investigating a fatal crash that involved one of their own officers early Wednesday morning.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported a vehicle collision just after 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Serene Avenue.

Authorities said the crash was a fatal collision that involved a Metro officer.

A citizen, identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as 31-year-old Andrew Johnson, died in the crash.

Road closures were in place at the scene of the accident and alternate routes were suggested by police.

The Henderson Police Department has taken over the investigation of the crash due to Metro involvement, according to police representatives.

Authorities did not release any further immediate information from the scene.
