UPDATE (JUNE 22): Las Vegas police released the identity of the suspect believed to have stabbed a woman in a drainage tunnel late Friday night. 

Matthew Rebich-Graham, 26, was arrested on Saturday night. He is charged with one count of Murder with a Weapon. 

The charge stems from a stabbing on South Edmond Street on Friday that resulted in the death of Heather Jensen.

ORIGINAL STORY: LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police were investigating two homicides in the valley early Saturday morning.

Both incidents happened around 11 p.m. June 19, according to LVMPD. At 11:14 p.m., police received a call about a shooting in the 7000 block of Hunts Corner Street, near Shaumber Road and Dorrell Lane. At 11:23 p.m., police responded to a stabbing call in the 5200 block of South Edmond Street, near Decatur Boulevard and Hacienda Avenue.

Dispatch received a call from a woman who reported she had been shot inside her residence located in the 7000 block of Hunts Corner Street. Moments later, a boy inside the residence called to report his father had shot his mother. When police arrived, they found an unconscious woman on the living room floor. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy was unharmed, LVMPD said.

Police arrested the suspect, later identified as 37-year-old Michael Alex. According to police, Alex and the victim got into a verbal argument inside the home. LVMPD said Alex pointed a gun at the victim and shot her in front of the boy.

Alex was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of open murder.

The victim was identified as Viktorija Canevik-Alex, 37, from Las Vegas. The Clark County Coroner's office said she died from a gunshot wound to the chest. 


Around 11:23 p.m., police received a report of a stabbing in a drainage tunnel located in the 5200 block of South Edmond Street, near Decatur and Hacienda. Police arrived to find an unresponsive woman suffering from apparent stab wounds. 

LVMPD said the woman was pronounced dead on scene.

According to police, the woman and several homeless people were consuming alcohol and narcotics in the drainage tunnel. One of the men unexpectedly produced a knife and began stabbing the woman multiple times.

The suspect fled the scene as witnesses attempted to get the woman help, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

The coroner identified the woman as Heather Jensen, 36.
