LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- Las Vegas Metropolitan Police investigated a fatal crash early Monday morning.

The crash happened near Eastern and Sahara avenues around 4 a.m. Aug. 30.

Police said a gray 2018 Toyota CH-R was traveling east on Sahara at the Eastern intersection as a pedestrian was running south, crossing westbound lanes on Sahara. Police said the pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, tripped and fell as the Toyota was approaching, and the Toyota hit him.

The man was taken to Sunrise Hospital but was later pronounced dead. The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the man as John Eurskins Hooks from Las Vegas. Hooks died from blunt injuries and his death was ruled an accident.

Police said the driver of the Toyota stayed at the scene and didn't show any signs of impairment.

The crash marked the 87th traffic-related fatality for LVMPD's jurisdiction in 2021.
