Boy charged with murder in Henderson teen's death

An additional murder charge was filed in the case against three teens accused in the June death of a 17-year-old Henderson boy Monday.

Kody Harlan, 17, was initially charged with "accessory to murder" because police said Jaiden Caruso, 16, pulled the trigger. Harlan was also charged with murder Monday.

During the hearing, the prosecution said the suspects cleaned and destroyed evidence at an abandoned Henderson house after Minkler died. Someone also spray painted the words "expletive Matt" on the closet door where his body was found, according to prosecutors.

Minkler's dad said the added charge will not bring his son back, but it is a step towards closure.

During Monday's preliminary hearing, one witness, who is a juvenile, said the a the suspects, Minkler, and a small group of others were hanging out in an abandoned house near Sunridge Heights and Eastern. The witness also said the group consumed a mix of marijuana, Xanax, and alcohol.

In another part of the hearing, Caruso's attorney brought up witness statement that Jaiden pointed the gun at himself and later shot a hole through the ceiling prior to Matt's death.

Police arrested a third teenager in connection with Minkler's death. Police would not release the suspect's name but said the teen faces charges related to destroying evidence and accessory to murder.

Harlan and Caruso were also charged with robbery, and Harlan's accessory charge remained. Both are charged as adults.
