RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - A new set of proposals from Democratic gubernatorial candidate Aaron Ford would expand the PUCN and implement new energy-related restrictions on data centers.

His first bill would expand the PUCN by adding three commissioners with a background in consumer protections.

As of now, the Commission is comprised of three commissioners who are each appointed by the Governor to serve a four-year term.

Ford’s second proposal would make data centers responsible for the costs associated with the additional energy infrastructure and electricity demands he says they create.

“Today, I’m introducing legislation that would stop Nevada consumers from being forced to foot the bill from increased electricity bills due to data centers’ increased energy usage. As Governor, my top priority will be to lower energy costs and we’ll get it done by any means necessary – and that includes taking on the greedy data centers and big utility companies,” Ford said.
