Officers found two vehicles with significant damage and several injured occupants.
A 38-year-old woman who was a passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
A 53-year-old man who was driving was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition and later died. Two other occupants were transported to UMC with injuries and are expected to survive.
Preliminary findings indicate a 2016 Honda HR-V was traveling eastbound on Lone Mountain Road at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light and struck a 2005 Ford Expedition traveling northbound on Clayton Street, police said.
Police said the impact caused both vehicles to spin through the intersection, leave the roadway and hit fixed objects, including a power pole and a wall.
Impairment is suspected as a contributing factor, according to police. Investigators obtained a search warrant for blood samples from the driver of the Honda.
The identities of the people who died, along with the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office, police said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada at 702-385-5555.
