LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — New body worn camera footage is showing the moments before a man accused of threatening his ex-girlfriend with a knife was shot and killed by Henderson police officers.

The video was shared during a briefing by the Henderson Police Department on Thursday morning, led by Deputy Chief Marcos Aguirre.

HPD initially responded to the scene near Wigwam Parkway and Valle Verde Drive on Feb. 19 around 8 a.m. after receiving a call from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was threatening her with a knife, would not let her leave, and would “shoot it out with police.”

During a 911 call played during the briefing, the victim could be heard saying, “He will kill me,” multiple times.

HPD identified the suspect involved as 44-year-old Fabian Leon. Deputy Chief Aguirre said during the briefing that Leon was found to have a “lengthy criminal history” in Nevada and California, and had been arrested 27 times in the last 12 years.

Arriving officers established a perimeter around the home, and observed the victim attempt to escape before being pulled back into the building by the suspect. According to the victim, who spoke with FOX5, the suspect pulled her back into the building by her hair.

“My whole life flashed right before me because he got me on the floor, and he pulled me by my hair,” she said. “And I’m surprised I didn’t die right there, because my neck should have snapped with the force.”

The victim was observed by police again exiting the back of the home to release several dogs outside. The victim previously told FOX5 that she had let the dogs leave because Leon had “threatened to boil them.”

When the victim emerged a final time, HPD officers can be seen on surveillance and body camera bracing behind a car on the opposite end of the street. The victim is seen running toward them while Leon follows.

Police say at one point, Leon reached into his pants and pulled out an “L-shaped metal object,” which resembled a gun and prompted officers to open fire on him.

  • Violation of a temporary protective order
  • Resisting a public officer with a deadly weapon (not firearm)
