Special Session Day 5: Windsor Park bill advances, school zone, film and crime bill on stand by
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The Senate and Assembly adjourned for the evening, planning for an unexpected day 6 of the Special Session.
Monday, the Assembly voted to pass the bill for Windsor Park relocation costs. Late Monday, the Senate quickly concurred the amendments. The bill is being enrolled, all to send it to the desk of Governor Joe Lombardo.
Many high-profile bills continue to linger in a second chamber, waiting for a final vote on the Floor before heading to the Governor’s Office.
AB6 (School Zone Bill)
Passed out of Senate committee Sunday, it awaits a final vote on the Senate floor.
Three students across CCSD have been struck and killed within 6 months, going to or from school, according to District officials.
Sunday, during a Senate Committee on Health and Wellness, one lawmaker, principal and educator shared her personal experience with one of the students who was recently struck and killed.
“One of my students, Cristofer Suarez, passed away last month. I attended his funeral two weeks ago. I want to just thank you. Thank you all for trying to work on solving this problem, giving local control,” said State Sen. Michelee Cruz-Crawford of Clark County.
AB5 (Film Bill)
Though the bill passed out of a five-and-a-half-hour Senate committee hearing, Sunday, it still awaits a final vote on the Senate Floor.
AB4 (Governor’s Crime Bill)
The bill stalled in the Senate Committee on Sunday.
Though the bill has broad support, those opposed have concerns with the provisions for an “Order Out” Corridor in Clark County.
According to testimony, several years ago, the court for these cases was suspended. The bill would affirm the ability of the County and local judges to create a court.
