Greek Food Festival preparations underway in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The 52nd annual Las Vegas Greek Food Festival is just around the corner.
Preparations are underway at St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church, near Hacienda Avenue and Jones Boulevard.
Thousands are expected to attend the 3-day celebration of all things Greek. Organizers say the festival is about so much more than just food.
“This is a time when you can come, this is a place where you can come and absolutely relax, eat food that you’ve never had, enjoy a culture, and get immersed in a culture that’s been around since the beginning of mankind, ” said John Koutsulis, a parish council member at St. John the Baptist.
The festival helps support the church, but the church will also donate parts of the proceeds to some good causes, Koutsulis said. A 26-mile relay, set to start at Tivoli Village, will benefit Las Vegas nonprofit Life by Music. A raffle will also be held, with $20,000 up for grabs. 10% of the proceeds will go to suicide prevention in Las Vegas.
The festivities are set to kick off next Friday and will last through the weekend. Festival organizers are selling tickets on their website starting at $10.
