Man carrying 'bladed weapon' shot by Las Vegas police near Downtown

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - An armed man was fatally shot by Las Vegas police on Tuesday morning after refusing to drop his weapon in the central Las Vegas Valley.

According to the department, dispatchers received a call about a man with an edged weapon around 12:40 a.m. near Eastern Avenue and Sahara Avenue.

Arriving officers reportedly tried to de-escalate the situation through “less-lethal options,” but the man refused to drop his weapon. The man charged at the officers with the weapon, and officers shot him.

Medical personnel transported the man to the hospital, where he would later be pronounced deceased. No officers were injured in the shooting.

As of 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Eastern Avenue is closed between Sahara and Karen Avenues as the investigation continues.

“This is the 2nd officer-involved shooting of 2024,” LVMPD noted in a release. “Per LVMPD policy, the identity of the officers involved will be released after 48 hours.”
