TOPIC: Mohammad Lethal Injection


NAME: Richard


RANT: Tonight, John Allen Mohammad will be given a lethal injection. In January, Scott Roeder will be tried for the murder of Dr. George Tiller, and Maj. Nidal Hassan will be tried in a military court. I disagree with capital punishment, but that is out of my hands. I'm just asking why Scott Roeder, who plans and executes a murder in a church and expresses no regret about it, is not being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Prosecutors are not going after the death penalty. Is anybody going to be satisfied with less than a death sentence for Maj. Nidal Hassan? I understand that accountability for crime is paramount to a civilized society, but I just wish the prosecution of our law would be a little more constant. Last time I checked, premeditated first-degree murder and showing no remorse makes him a prime candidate for the death penalty.


TOPIC: Gold Star Plates

RANT: In a recent news article, I learned that Nevada has joined more than 40 other states that have low- or no-cost license plates for families of those who died while serving in the military. In Nevada, the initial fee is $1 and there is no renewal fee. The list of eligible recipients includes the spouse, parent, stepparent, grandparent, child, stepchild, dependent, sibling, half-sibling or step-sibling of the service member. While the intent of recognizing our fallen veterans is good, I think Nevada has expanded the Gold Star list to be too inclusive and shortchanges those of us who are living veterans who have served our country just as honorably. Many of us veterans would also like a low initial cost, no renewal cost plate. How de we lobby to make that happen?


TOPIC: Bi-racial


NAME: Kim


RANT: I believe we should all take pride in where we come from and be confident in our race/gender. It drives me nuts when people like President Barack Obama and other bi-racial people feel the need to declare one race or the other. Everyone was so happy that we elected the first African-American President, but last time I heard, Obama was not African-American but was bi-racial. How sad for his white mother and white grandparents who raised him to be cast aside while he proudly acknowledges the race of his African-American dad who left him. Can't we be proud of being bi-racial and not have to declare a race? Let’s be proud that we elected a bi-racial president.

TOPIC: Andre Agassi

RANT: Andre Agassi is being forthright and honest and is being treated poorly for it, while 99 percent of Las Vegans have skeletons of some sort. Don’t judge him and especially, don’t forget his contribution to our community, children and how he bettered himself. Also, the comment about him giving back his title is ridiculous. There have been a lot of athletes admitting to substance abuse who have never been asked to give back their titles. Las Vegans just remember, if one child can be saved from this situation, in my opinion, it’s worth it.


TOPIC: H1N1 Clinic

RANT: I read an article about a family who was so surprised they were questioned by the health district about their son really having asthma in order to receive the shot. Well, no one is getting it! We are a country of messing it up by giving it to just about anyone without proof, and then when an honest person comes along, we now get with the rules! Just ask all the people who have lost homes or are about to why the banks gave loans to anyone with a pulse before the financial melt down and now it’s beyond ridiculous to get a loan, refi or modification!
