TOPIC: Fort Hood Massacre


NAME: Rod


RANT: Let’s get this right people: this shooting was NOT an unfortunate incident of post-traumatic stress disorder. This piece of garbage had never seen combat and had never been deployed in a combat environment. Reports are that he had a history of problems throughout his Army career and despite all the red flags that were surrounding him, apparently no real action was taken against him. To the contrary, he was only recently promoted the rank of Major. How was THAT possible? It seems pretty obvious, this wasn’t an incident of post-traumatic stress so much as it was the culmination of out-of-control political correctness.

RANT: On the eve of Veterans Day, let's just set aside our tremendous local problems and take in the horror of the terrorist act at Ft. Hood, Texas. So much for the politically correct view of Islam as a religion of peace! This is just another example of how our government policy of appeasement has led us to this tragedy. This coward had every opportunity to avoid combat. As a doctor he would never have had to fire a shot. He allowed the government to pay for his education and training for years. Instead he chose to kill unarmed soldiers and civilians. Make no mistake, he is a terrorist -- nothing more, nothing less.

RANT: I just wanted to tell the families of the fallen soldiers that we all send our prayers from Las Vegas to you in your time of loss. I have a proposal to all active and reserve brethren, wear your ACUs in honor of the fallen this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We really need to bond together for them and the rest of the soldiers we lost. It breaks my heart to hear of the fallen from Iraq, but to get killed on our own soil is so sad. Stand tall, be proud!

TOPIC: Unemployment

RANT: For those of you in the position of hiring someone, if you really want to help Vegas' economy, have a short moratorium on hiring someone who already has a job. For 6 months or so forget about getting the best person for the cheapest price. Hire a person who can do the job and doesn't already have a job! And to those of you already working, stop shifting around for a while and give the unemployed a chance to recover. Government, maybe you can come up with an incentive for businesses implementing this suggestion.

RANT: It is good to see that Washington is finally taking the unemployment numbers seriously. Now if we could only get the state and local politicians and lobbyists to go after meaningful industries to get these numbers down, we would all be ahead. But since the gaming industry owns probably half or better of the politicians in this state, we won't see that happening any time soon. Wow, people with degrees, two things to look forward to, the gaming industry or construction in Nevada ... Whoopee!
