THE RANT
TOPIC: Metro Police
NAME: Anonymous
RANT: I am a nurse who has lived in Las Vegas for 10 years and the conduct of Metro officers is deplorable. I see patients who have temperatures of 105 degrees from officers who leave them in the back of the cruiser for 30 minutes with the heat controls on high in July and teenagers who have their foreheads sutured shut from officers slamming their heads into the cruiser for issuing verbal expletives. The officers come in to the ER, joking and high-fiving each other, while collaborating to alter the reports to cover up their abuse. I used to respect the police, but these are not isolated incidents. A badge does not exempt them from the laws they are paid to enforce. Very few wear seatbelts, drive the speed limit or treat the citizens of Clark County with any measure of respect. Mr. Gillespie, who is in control of your department? Enforce the laws of the land and remember your "gold cards" (badges) do not exempt you from adhering to state and county laws. Perhaps Metro should change their recruitment campaign to reflect the conduct they seem to ignore in their staff -- "Join Metro, where you can drive as fast as a NASCAR driver in a residential area, fight citizens like a no-holds barred UFC fighter and demand free meals from small business restaurant owners and convenience stores. Do all you can -- and get away with it."
TOPIC: Nevada Welfare
NAME: Justin
RANT: I was at a Wal-Mart store the other day, Nov. 1, and saw several people pushing around two and three shopping carts full of groceries. I asked one of the store employees what was going on. She told me that it was "Mother's Day.” She explained to me that every first and fifteenth of the month, people come with their welfare vouchers. I saw people with carts stuffed with more meat than I am able to buy in six months, and I have a job. I know these people need to eat, but I was astonished at the amount and cost of what they purchased. Why work when the government will provide everything for free?
TOPIC: Brits Not Tipping
NAME: Ann
RANT: "Cheers mate does not pay the bills." How funny, it more than made up for the bad service. Silly me for thinking hotel staff were deaf. I wonder how many Brits saw that RANT and told their friends not to take that direct flight. I've asked Americans if this is really the case and was told when Americans hear a British accent they move on ASAP. After further discussion it emerged that they earn $200 to $500 in tips a day! I said that some of these Brits earn a fraction of this, save and choose America for their holiday. The response was, "We only think if you can't afford to go out, don't." Well done, you! Cheers mate!
TOPIC: Henderson Post Office
NAME: Susan
RANT: After standing in a long line for 35 minutes at the Seven Hills Post Office to mail a package, I am furious that this station is not run more efficiently. People waiting became angry and several people voiced their concern about how unbelievably bad the service was. An elderly lady was waiting an hour for help with her problem and had nowhere to sit. Another was kicking a box because she had to wrap it herself for mailing. Who can we talk to about the poor management at this post office? We should not have to stand for 30-60 minutes for postal service.
TOPIC: Pole Dancers In Trucks
NAME: Bill
RANT: OK, now things have gone TOO far, even for Las Vegas. Last night, I was giving a tour of Las Vegas, as I am a tour guide. Pulling up next to us on the Strip was a glassed-in truck with two pole dancers doing their thing. It was extremely suggestive and a very bad idea. It is a traffic accident waiting to happen and even worse, I had several families on the tour with young impressionable children along. Please, Metro, do something about it, if not from a moral standpoint, then from a traffic distraction view. It’s all just way too over the top, all for the sake of business promotion.
