Pedestrian seriously injured in car crash in east Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metropolitan police said a pedestrian was struck and seriously injured in a car crash in east Las Vegas Wednesday night.

Officers were called to North Nellis Boulevard and East Sahara Avenue at around 9:15 p.m., police said. The driver of a Toyota Tacoma, identified as 57-year-old Bennie Brown, was heading north on Nellis Boulevard.

The pedestrian, identified by police as Ricardo Gonzalez, 39, was walking across Sahara Avenue outside the marked crosswalk and crossed in front of the Toyota, according to officers. Brown hit Gonzalez and Gonzalez slid to a stop in the northbound lanes. Police said Brown stopped his car and reported the accident.

Gonzalez was taken to University Medical Center Trauma with serious injuries, according to Metro Police.

The collision remains under investigation by LVMPD's Collision Investigation Section.
