LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a van Tuesday morning, according to Las Vegas Metro police.

Officers responded to the incident just before 7 a.m. near Decatur Boulevard and Tropicana Avenue.

Citing evidence at the scene and witness statements, police said a 2017 Chevrolet van was traveling north on Decatur when it left the roadway onto the west sidewalk. A pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart on the sidewalk before he was hit.

The 56-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The man driving the van was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Northbound and Southbound Decatur were closed just north of Tropicana.

Impairment does not appear to be a factor, police said.

An investigation is ongoing.
