Man arrested after double shooting in Spring Valley

A 48-year-old man was arrested in connection with a double shooting in Spring Valley on Tuesday. 

Las Vegas Metro police arrested Alex Yanko for murder with a deadly weapon and attempted murder with a deadly weapon. He was taken into custody on Wednesday at  11:30 p.m. near Fort Apache Road and Tropicana Avenue. 

Citing the investigation, police said the victims were in front of a home in the 3600 block of Starbright Lane, near Twain Avenue and Durango Drive, when the suspect, Yanko, approached them. Yanko is suspected of pulling out a gun within moments of approaching the victims and shooting them several times before leaving the area. 

Both victims were taken to University Medical Center, police said. One victim died at the hospital.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument about money or property.
