(Meredith) – A video of a teary-eyed nurse comforting a dying patient by singing her favorite song has captured the hearts of millions online.

Megan Smith shared the video on Monday, showing nurse Olivia Nuefelder embracing her mother, Margaret, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Smith reportedly said her mother was admitted to the hospital because her health began to decline. She had been fighting liver cancer for a year, but doctors said she wouldn’t survive a transplant.

The nurse sat by Margaret’s bedside, holding her hand, while singing, “Dancing in the Sky” by Dani and Lizzy.

“You never left her side by choice!” Smith wrote of the nurse. “Words cannot describe the appreciation and love we feel for nurse Olivia who mom calls her angel.”

The video posted to Facebook has been viewed more than 3.5 million times and counting.

Smith said not only did Nuefelder sing to her mom, she also sat with her until her anesthesia wore off.

“Your dedication to your patients is beyond any that I have seen," Smith wrote. "You truly are a beam of light, and I cannot thank you enough for the compassion and care and love you shared with my mother.”

Margaret was later moved from the hospital to a nursing home, where she reportedly died on Wednesday.
