NORTH LAS VEGAS, NV (FOX5) -

An "altercation" lead to a fatal shooting of a 30-year-old man near Deer Springs and Aviary Ways, according to North Las Vegas Police.

A 22-year-old man in a vehicle shot the victim, who was on foot in the area. The victim, identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Robert Brown Jr., was hit in the "upper extremity" and taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was put into custody and remained on the scene for questioning.

Police said the victim was on foot and "agitated" when he approached a white Nissan truck in the area. Witnesses said the victim broke out the suspect's driver's side window and the suspect driver may have acted in self defense when he fired at least one shot at the victim, striking him in his upper torso. The driver was not injured.

A woman was also in the truck but was unharmed, according to NLVPD.

Police did not say what the altercation was regarding. Officer responded at 8:15 p.m.
