LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

An infant, man, woman, and dog are dead after an apparent murder-suicide in southwest Las Vegas on Monday, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

Officers responded to the incident at 8:04 p.m. in the 10000 block of Numaga Road, near Cactus Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard.

Two parents and their son appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds in a possible domestic-violence situation, Metro said. The man is the suspected shooter.

"He clearly shot the mother of his child, the baby, and then himself. There was also a dead dog inside," Lt. Dan McGrath said.

The dog was also shot.

The man was in his 40s, the woman in her 30s and the baby was about to turn one-year-old, police said.

Police said the woman had another child from a previous relationship who is ok.

Neighbors said they knew the family well, especially the father.

"They were extremely nice. John welcomed my dad into his house because he was a licensed therapist, and he gave my dad massages on his shoulder," neighbor Philip Punzalan said. "I didn't really think he'd be a guy capable of pulling something like that off."

Punzalan said he never heard the gunshots on Monday night, but he knew the father kept "a lot of guns" in the house. He said he's especially confused because the family seemed so happy, just days before the shooting.

"We saw them out here lighting fireworks and the wife was recording him and they were all smiles!" Punzalan said. "It's kind of odd, less than a week after 4th of July all this happened... definitely prayers out to the family."

FOX5 has chosen not to identify or post photos of the victims -- out of respect for the family -- until the information is released publicly by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Metro's Homicide Section at 702-828-3521. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
