(Meredith) -- It's one of the greatest modern mysteries, and we finally may have some answers.

July 2nd marked the 80-year anniversary of Amelia Earhart’s disappearance, but a newly released photo may show us what happened when she and navigator Fred Noonan vanished.

A newly discovered photo shows that Earhart and Noonan may have crashed in the Marshall Islands. The photo was found in the National Archives. However, all of this is speculation at this point, stemming from a woman that looks like Earhart in the photo.

However, experts are saying the photo does appear genuine and unaltered.

Earhart was last heard from during her attempt to become the first woman pilot to circle the globe, but vanished in 1937. She was declared dead two years later.
