LAKE MEAD (FOX5) -

Lake Mead officials are investigating an infant who died in the recreational area in November.

The Lake Mead National Recreation Area Communication Center received a call that an infant was unresponsive and not breathing near the 33 Hole Overlook at about 8:30 a.m. Nov. 26 according to park officials.

The National Park Service said a family was camping with the infant at the Lake Mead National Recreational Area when the call for help came in.

Officials say a Good Samaritan was boating in the area when he heard screams for help. The man beached his vessel and provided CPR on the infant, with the mother, until units arrived.

Medical personnel took over patient care, but the infant could not be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene according to the park service.

Officials said the incident remains under investigation by the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch.
