LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas police announced Wednesday they will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint Dec. 9.

Authorities advised the area selected has had approximately 217 service calls for collisions and 61 calls involving impaired drivers.

LVMPD traffic and patrol officers said they will focus on both drug and alcohol impaired drivers, in the hope of reducing driving under the influence incidents.

The sobriety checkpoint will run between the hours of 7 p.m. and 3 a.m. according to Metro.

Officers have not released the exact location of the checkpoint, but said the event will increase the safety for all Southern Nevada motorists.
