Road work continues around Las Vegas Valley

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Construction work continues around the Las Vegas Valley and it is adding stress to drivers.

Starting Wednesday, one lane on each side of U.S. 95 will be closed during the week, from Rancho Drive to the Spaghetti Bowl, as part of Project Neon.

"Lanes may get slowed down for that little stretch so just budget some extra time when reaching your final destination," said Tony Illia, of the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Next week, construction will also start on a portion of Summerlin Parkway.

With all of the planned road work, NDOT wants drivers to slow down when they see the orange barrels.

"If you get caught speeding through a construction zone, fines double, so it can be a pricey proposition," said Illia.

Officials say pay attention to signs that warn of the upcoming work zones and be prepared for road work ahead.

"Slow down and be aware of a change coming up," said Illia.

Some drivers told FOX5 they've learned to accept all the construction and hope it ends up meaning a smoother commute.
