LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas police arrested a man who allegedly shot his son Tuesday night.

Officers were in the area of Rainbow Boulevard and Windmill Lane when they heard gunshots just after 8 p.m., police said.

Police responded to the 7800 block of Rainbow Boulevard, where they were approached by 49-year-old Michael Gardenhire, according to police.

Gardenhire allegedly told police there was a shooting in his apartment.

According to Metro, officers found an unresponsive man in a unit with gunshot wounds.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and later identified as 20-year-old Joshua Deshawn Lee by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Authorities said Gardenhire was detained at the scene and police said the victim in this shooting was his son.

Police booked Gardenhire into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder with a deadly weapon.

The coroner reported Lee died from a gunshot wound of the chest and ruled his death a homicide.

This was the 155th homicide investigated by Las Vegas Metro police in 2016.
