LAS VEGAS (AP) -

Nevada casinos are reporting an 11 percent jump in gambling revenue statewide in October, compared with a year earlier, and a nearly 5 percent rise so far this year.

A monthly state Gaming Control Board report released Tuesday shows that casinos won nearly $990 million last month, up from almost $949 million in September and $887 million in October 2015.

The increase in so-called casino win was propelled by double-digit increases in and around Las Vegas.

The state collected $59.5 million in taxes on the October winnings, up almost 14 percent from the same period last year.

Revenue on the Las Vegas Strip was up 14 percent year-over-year, to $563 million.

Downtown Las Vegas and North Las Vegas each reported winnings jumps of more than 29 percent.

Reno-area casinos reported a 3.6 percent increase in winnings, while South Lake Tahoe casino revenue was down 22 percent.
