PAHRUMP, NV (FOX5) -

The Nye County Sheriff’s Office said they are looking for information on who tied a dog to a pole and shot it multiple times.

The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the incident on Oct. 29 at 9:47 a.m. at the Bell Vista Shooting Range in Pahrump.

Deputies and animal control officers found a black and white terrier mix that had been shot multiple times, the sheriff’s office said. Animal control personnel said it appeared the dog may have recently given birth.

"It's disturbing that somebody would shoot a dog. We take these things very seriously because they do have a tendency to escalate," Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said.

The sheriff’s office believes the suspect or suspects may have used a 45 caliber handgun.

Sheriff Wehrly told FOX5 investigators are running out of leads, and need the public's help.

"If someone heard someone bragging, talking about what they've don't, we need that information," Wehrly said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at 775-751-7000 or send a confidential email to sheriff@co.nye.nv.us.
