Motorcyclist critically injured after street racing

Police said they are investigating an overnight crash that has left a motorcyclist critically injured in east Las Vegas on Monday. 

Officers were called to the 4400 block of East Sahara Avenue, just east of Lamb Boulevard, at about 12:30 a.m. with reports of a vehicle accident.

Police said the collision involved a motorcycle and a vehicle at that location.

Citing witness statements and evidence, officers said the motorcycle was possibly racing another vehicle in the area when a Toyota Yaris pulled out from a private driveway and crossed the path of the motorcyclist which resulted in the crash. 

The rider was transported to Sunrise Hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said the driver of the Toyota failed field sobriety tests was transported to the Clark County Detention Center. 

The original vehicle seen racing with the motorcycle continued away from the scene, according to officers.It was described as a white colored sports car, possibly a Chevrolet Corvette. 

Other factors of speed and street racing are pending the outcome of the investigation, police said.

Traffic restrictions were in place on Sahara while Metro investigated the accident.
