LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Las Vegas Metro police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian near the Rio hotel-casino Saturday night.

The incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. at Valley View Boulevard and Viking Road, near Flamingo Road.

According to police, a 31-year-old man from California, identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Vanharris Haiola, was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when he was struck by a GMC Denali.

Haiola was transported to University Medical Center, but was pronounced deceased, police said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, police said.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area while officers were at the scene investigating the crash.

This was the 105th traffic fatality in Metro's jurisdiction for 2016.

Metro said the collision remains under investigation.
