Report: 4 killed in small plane crash in Elko, NV

ELKO, NV (FOX5) -

Emergency personnel in Elko responded to a deadly airplane crash Friday night at the parking lot of a mining company based in the Northern Nevada town.

The Elko Fire Department confirmed responding to the incident at a parking lot. The plane crashed into multiple cars and buses, which also caught fire, according to the fire department.

Fire officials noted an apartment complex for senior citizens is near the incident but not affected.

Allen Kenitzer, spokesman for the FAA, said the incident appeared to involved a Piper PA 31 aircraft with four people on board.

The aircraft crashed under unknown circumstances just northeast of the Elko Airport, Kenitzer said. He also noted there were no injuries to anyone on the ground.

The Elko Daily Free Press further reported that four people on the plane were killed in this crash, including a heart patient who was on board, as the Medflight just took off from the Elko Airport. The patient was being transported to the University of Utah.

A video posted to YouTube also shows flamed that appeared to have come from the crash. (Warning: Graphic language within the clip.)
