Coroner determines cause of death of Las Vegas newborn

Medical examiners have determined the cause of death of a newborn girl. 

The Clark County Coroner's Office said the baby died from birth asphyxia, or a lack of oxygen. The manner was ruled a homicide. 

Police said the child's mother Veronica Salazar, 20, gave birth to the girl on July 6 inside an apartment near Maryland Parkway and Vegas Valley Drive.

Salazar requested medical assistance, but did not tell emergency personnel she gave birth, police said. Medical professions discovered she had given birth after she was taken to Sunrise Hospital. 

Salazar faces a murder charge for the death of the child.
