LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A man struck by a vehicle while begging for money in July has succumbed to his injuries, according to Las Vegas Metro police.

Police said 53-year-old Robert Orlando died at a hospice facility on Oct. 5. The Clark County Coroner’s Office said Orlando died as a result of the crash.

On July 17, at 2:44 a.m. near the intersection of Maryland Parkway and Desert Inn Road Orlando was walking in stopped traffic asking motorists for money. After the traffic signal turned green, Orlando began walking back towards the sidewalk in front of a stopped Chevrolet Silverado and into the path of an approaching Honda Civic. Simultaneously, the driver of the Honda swerved to avoid Orlando and clipped a portion of the Chevrolet.

Orlando was transported to Sunrise Trauma Center in critical condition, police said.

The incident remains under investigation.

The death marks the 103rd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction.
