LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police said a woman believed to have opened fire at an apartment complex near McCarran Airport, locked herself in a unit and refused to come out to officers Tuesday evening.

According to Lt. David Gordon, of Las Vegas Metro police, officers were called to the apartment complex in the 5400 block of South Maryland Parkway on reports of shots fired.

Officers learned a 38-year-old woman may have been involved, police said. Officers tried to get the woman to exit an apartment, but she refused.

Some residents were told to evacuate during the incident, as SWAT officers were called to the complex to negotiate the woman's surrender.

The woman eventually was taken into police custody at about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities have not released any further information at this time regarding the situation.
