LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Police have one person under arrest after an overnight situation turned into an officer-involved shooting in east Las Vegas.

Officers said they attempted to stop an unregistered vehicle near Bonanza Road and Nellis Boulevard at about 11:15 p.m. Monday, but the vehicle failed to stop and took off from police at a high rate of speed.

Metro stated they did not pursue the vehicle and located it in a neighborhood off of Del Arno Drive, near Sandhill Road, a short time later.

When an officer approached the vehicle the driver then attempted to run that officer over, according to Metro.

Authorities said the officer fired multiple times, but did not strike the suspect.

Police said the man behind the wheel was eventually taken into custody in the area of Vallejo Avenue and Midas Street.

The suspect was identified as 18-year-old Daniel Prichard, by Metro, and booked into the Clark County Detention Center for multiple charges associated with this incident.

Police shut down traffic in the neighborhood, near U.S. 95 and Charleston Boulevard, during the officer-involved situation.

This was the 8th officer-involved shooting of 2016 in Metro's jurisdiction.

The identify of the officer will be released after 48 hours per Metro policies.
