LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

For the last six decades, Mark Kleckner had to deal with knee pain from an injury he got during his time serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

"I was asked to help out how to teach the troops, leaving to go to Korea - how to defend themselves properly, and in that is when I got hurt," Kleckner said.

Over the years, that pain came and went. But, the 83-year-old said recently he hasn't been able to walk more than a half a block or stand for more than a minute or two.

"You do get a little bitter when you're having pain," Kleckner said.

So, to help, Kleckner got a Veterans Day surprise. The newly formed Las Vegas chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association gave Mark a wheelchair so he can get around without having to stand or walk.

The wheelchair was donated to the organization, and businesses 101 Mobility and U-Haul are pitching in to install ramps and lifts in the veteran's home and car.

"We heard that I was chosen, then we became elated. It makes me love life again, more," Kleckner said. "I can now share more time with not just with my wife, but mostly with my wife, but all the members of the family, too."

Kleckner said he hasn't been able to do things like go to the mall with his wife, Lisa, or go to Disneyland with his grandkids.

He added that it makes this Veterans Day even more special.

"It's the most important holiday that I and my family celebrate together," he said.
