LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

A crash in the northwest Las Vegas Valley that involved a motorcyclist resulted in the rider's death, police said Friday.

According to Las Vegas Metro police, the crash took place at 5:25 p.m. in the area of Fort Apache Road and Cheyenne Avenue. The crash also involved a van.

Citing evidence and witness statements, police said the rider was traveling eastbound on Cheyenne towards Fort Apache at a high-rate of speed. A westbound van was attempting a U-turn onto eastbound Cheyenne when it drove in the path of the bike.

The bike fell to its side and crashed into the rear-end of the van, causing the rider to eject. Police said the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saturday, the rider was identified as 33-year-old Nicholas Shockley, from Las Vegas, by the Clark County Coroner's Office and his death was ruled an accident.

According to authorities, the van driver was cooperating with police following the incident.

The crash marked the 24th incident involving a motorcycle in Metro's jurisdiction this year. It is also the 97th traffic-related fatality in the Las Vegas Valley in 2016.
