1 killed in shooting near Nellis identified

Man shot and killed Friday evening in northeast Las Vegas has been identified.

According to Sgt. Timothy Hatchett, of Las Vegas Metro police, officers were called to 420 Puebla St., near North Las Vegas Boulevard, at 7:50 p.m.

Police said the victim and a female were walking home through a nearby elementary school campus when they were approached by three other people.

An altercation took place between a victim and one of the males in the group. Another person pulled out a gun and opened fire on the victim.

The victim, identified as 27-year-old Devon Whitson by the Clark County Coroner's Office, was wounded five to six times according to authorities. He was rushed to University Medical Center, but was pronounced deceased.

Police said the three suspects involved were last seen running from the scene after the shooting.

Police did not disclose a motive or suspect descriptions in the case, but were not ruling out any connection to gang activity.
