LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

The mother of a 2-year-old child who died last month at an apartment complex was arrested in connection to the death, according to Las Vegas Metro police.

Police said the investigation into the Oct. 18 death resulted in the arrest of 23-year-old Diana Eldridge. She was arrested Wednesday.

According to police, officers were called to the 5400 block of South Maryland Parkway to look into a child's death. Police found an unresponsive girl at the scene. The child was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

As a result, Metro's Abuse and Neglect section looked into the death of the child who lived in an apartment with her mom and two other siblings. Police said the girl suffered from environmental and medical neglect for an extended period of time before her death.

Eldridge was booked into Clark County Detention Center on a count of murder and two counts of child neglect.

The girl's death represented the 146th homicide in Metro's jurisdiction this year.

Police are still investigating the case. They urged anyone with information on the incident to contact Metro's Abuse and Neglect Section at 702-828-3364 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
